I haven't had any problems with my HSBC account so my general experiance has been good. I like HSBC because they have many local branches. Their online savings account is easy to setup and has really good rates > 5%. Once you have an online savings account, you see it along side your regular checking and it is simple to transfer money. One annoying trend HSBC has recently started is that transfers to external accounts now add a $3 fee. It is nice to just be able to transfer without worrying about fees. A will complain that the local branches have bad hours for working employees; Here in Bohemia they are closed on weekends and also close early during the week.

Today is January 6, I deposited checks on the 29th of december. That's a full 8 days and HSBC has only made half of the money available. They have what's called a bank balance, and an available balance. And the available balance is not credited for several days even after they withdrew money from the funding account. I realize new years "holiday" is in there, but come on this is a little rediculous HSBC, 8 days and still not completed. If I really needed the money for rent or something, too bad.

It's friday and I went to an HSBC atm in farmingdale to get money because the bank had already closed. I start using the ATM and it lets me into my account and I do an account inquiry. It prints out my account details and then continues prompting for my pin. I enter it again and it prints out my account details again and then prompts me for a pin again. At this point the machine seems to be stuck in a loop, however I keep trying because I need to get money, however it locks me out saying excessive pins. I called HSBC support and she told me to go to another atm, "there is nothing wrong with your card". never mind how much of a hassle that is. I pull up to another HSBC atm and it immediately says excessive pin attempts and doesn't allow me to sign on (unlike before). I call HSBC back and told another guy everything again. He assumed that I was somehow at fault and he couldn't help me, I'd have to wait for my pin to reset. Even when I told him that my pin did work and that the first HSBC atm was screwed up. He suggested that if I knew my old pin I could call a special 800 number to change it, and that might help. I called and changed my pin successfully, but it still didn't work on the atm. I have two problems with HSBC: 1. Their ATM printed my account details with an (allegedly) incorrect pin. 2. They were unable to help me. I urgently needed the money to pay rent which is now late because of them.



If you have trouble dealing with a company, your best bet may be for you to contact the Better Business Bureau. Post your company complaints on boards like this one to help educate other consumers. You may also want to report bad companies that have deceptive practices to the FTC. Obviously if you find a company is doing a good job, then the best way for you to help the company is the spread the word!

Research companies yourself before doing business with them. It can save you much time, money, and most importantly leave you with a positive customer experience.
